OUR LOST FRIENDS
Mary Pat Hughes was a killer sax player. She learned on the baritone, which was almost as big as she was, then switched over to alto. She shared the stage with The Outcasts many nights and always ended up being the center of attraction. MP, as I always called her, also fronted her band 2 FUNKIN HEAVY which consisted of the most talented bunch of LADIES in the Maryland/DC area. They kicked serious ass. MP was certainly an incredible musician, but she was also a wonderful person. She was my friend. MP lost her battle with Leukemia in June 1999. I loved her and I miss her a lot. .
Geno Capitol, lead vocals and songwriter for the BIG DOG BAND. I was lucky enough to be a part of that band during the early 1990's. Geno was by far "THE " smoothest front man I'd ever seen in action. Along with his best friend and brother, Ron Capitol on keyboard & flute, Geno worked every crowd like he had hold of their strings. Night after night he was THE PUPPET MASTER. No one ever left a show disappointed. He wasn't sick very long. Sadly, Geno was gone September 1999.
Bobby Cotoia, keyboard player with John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. I first met Bobby in High School when we were both 15 years old. Damn, we had a hell of a time together, did some crazy things and of course got into lots of trouble.
The first time he and I played together we pushed his parent's upright piano from his house, down the sidewalk 2 blocks to a rented garage. Bobby and the BBB earned 2 platinum albums and traveled the world doing what he did best. Bobby was really a great guy. He'd give you the shirt off his back. What a freaking shame, he died September 2004 waiting for a liver transplant.
